PRACTICE 2
As time goes on I am getting more and more experiences in my teaching practicum, and I feel like every day there is something new to learn. In this second practice the topic was “music tastes”. I really liked this topic because when students hear the word MUSIC they get excited, and they want to say their likes and dislikes on music. Well, first able, I started with “hot potatoes’ game”. I could say that it was an excellent activity. I included questions related to the topic, and I must say that they enjoyed it. I really liked when students like something because they got fun and learned at the same time. Then, they had to read Music Taste in which people describe what they do when they are listening to music, what they do not like about music, etc. After reading this they worked on a true and false activity, based on the reading. Then, I asked for the respective answers. Then, they had to compare their likes based on the reading, as well. In this last activity that I mentioned students had troubles on comparing their likes because they have to follow a pattern, and they did not get what they had to do until I explained again, and I made an example by my own. At the end, they did it which is the most important thing. The next activity was that they had to answer some questions about their music taste individually. After doing this they shared their answers with the class and then, we finished with a comparison activity in which they had to compare likes with their partners, and share with the class, too. What I really did not like is that I did not finish all the activities. There was missing one in which they had to make a conversation. Sometimes we expect to do all the things that we had planned, but just God knows what will really happen. Now, I must say that the students that I am working with do not understand when I am giving a direction; therefore, I have to teach or explain step by step the examples and writing them on the board, or if it is possible make gestures as much as I can. In that way they will know what to do, and what I am trying to say.

ResponderEliminarSomething important to help students understand it´s to provide them simple examples in which they can understand better, you can use real examples or you can invent it also, sometimes the book has examples that students don´t like or don´t understand, as teacher you can provide them real examples, things that they can recognize or get more familiar. For example, if you are teaching prepositions of place to give directions for example; a reading about a place that they don´t know, students don´t will pay enough attention that if a readings is about places that they know, for example: the cathedral, theater,Libertad Park,etc if they live in Santa Ana city, because these are places that they can talk about or maybe their neighborhood too, I mean we can use these things to facilitate students´learning and motivate them to put in practice with real situations.! ResponderEliminarI think that for the second time we all improved our class, and also our activitie and our time. We can always help our students with giving them the chance to participate in the activities and in listen to their questions. We need to helpe them to erase their fears and encourage them to participate and to ask question every time that they do not understand. It is good, as you said, explain them step by step, and they will learn better and you will get more satisfaction.
