Third class, cicle II, Teaching P.

Today, I taught my last class with advanced students. It was something that I had never taught or let’s say doing and all over the classes that I have taught, but that never came today. In this class I made a dictation practice now, I am going to tell you what I did.

The first thing that I did is a warm up activity which was to brainstorm the topic of the dictation practice that they were going to write in their notebooks. Well, it was nice because they started to say words related to that word. Then, I came out with the dictation practice.  This was the thing that I had to teach today. The first thing that I did is that I read the article first, and then, I asked them to write it in their notebooks. When they finished writing the article I gave them the page for they to check spelling.

Then, I asked for new words, and they told me the words that they had. I gave them meanings, and they got it in a very nice way.

After doing this, I gave them an activity in which they had to create questions following the answer that I gave them below. They had ten minutes to do it, but they did not finish, and I could not check what they did because time was over, and they had activity to do. So the teacher told me to let them doing it at home.

Something that I did not like in today`s class is that my tonged was twisted, and there was a moment in which I felt frustrated because I could not say a word. I hope it never happens again.

Something that I really liked in this class was the students’ participation and feelings. I must say that they were happier than never.

Second entry, cicle II, Teaching P

Well, my second class is done, and now I can say that I have learned many things from students and even from the teacher.  Today, my topic was music. I started my class with a very nice warm up activity; I brought a CD with a lot of songs on it, and I played it in the classroom. My purpose of doing this is to ask students the name of the songs, the name of the singer and the type of music that I was playing. It was nice because they enjoyed it and it could be noticed when I was playing the songs.

Then, I came out with some new vocabulary related to music and to the reading that I was going to present. So I brought some bond color paper with new words on it and meanings, as well.  I asked students to come to the front and pasted the words with the correct meaning. Most of the words were well done and the ones that were wrongs, I correct them for them to copy in their notebooks.

Then, I gave them the reading in which they had to read and answer some questions that I was going to ask. When they finished reading the article about music, I asked them for new vocabulary, and I told them some meanings that they did not know.

Then, I asked them some questions to see if they had understood the reading, and unfortunately, they did it in a very nice way.

After this, I asked them to complete a square in which they had to fill out the spaces following the reading that I gave them.

This is how it worked, and I think that I did it in a very nice way.

What I did not like is that I used a permanent marker when I was working with the students, and I could not monitor, and it affected my grade someway, but anyways as I told you I learned a lot because it will not happen to me anymore.

One of the things that I liked is the warm up activity because it worked nice and students get relaxed for a while.

In the teacher feedback what he told me was that I do not have to give them too much time for doing an activity and i have to monitor what they are doing, no matter what happened.

FIRST CLASS, SECOND SEMESTER, ADVANCED I

Another semester started and we continue getting and getting more experience about teaching. In every class that we teach we face new situations that make us to think and do not make that mistake again. Let me tell you that now I am working with advanced I, teacher Alex Mendoza. The topic was Present Perfect. First of all, I want to say that I was not nervous because I already knew the group, and they are very participative.

Well, the first thing that I did as a warm up is to give them a ball, and the one who get it was going to answer a funny question. They were enjoying the activity. I could notice that because all of us were laughing. Then, I came up with a chart in which students have to complete some sentences. They had to put the word in the correct place.

Later, I gave certain number of questions for students to create a conversation. They had to include other questions for doing this something more interesting. Then, I asked them to go to the front and share the conversation that they had created. Because of the time I just asked two couples to perform. It was funny, I really liked it.

Then, I gave them a fill in the blank activity for they to complete. I gave them seven minutes; then, we checked them all together. After doing this, I asked them to stand up and discuss the same questions that the fill in the blank activity contained. I asked them to stand up and make to lines in order to be face to face discussing with their classmates.

Something that I really liked is that students participate a lot, they do what you ask them to do, and you do not have any trouble with that.

Talking in general something that I do not like is the time in which we have to be there. It is too early, but anyways.

Some feedback that the teacher gave me was that I have to let the students to think how the sentences go before asking them to come to the front and complete sentences. Another thing that he did is that he gave some advices of how to move from one activity to another. I really liked this because it will help me a lot.

So, this is what really happened in my first day with advanced students.
