Third class, third period

In my third class with intermediate students, I felt more confidence. I made many activities that were well developed according to the topic. They were studying “future in the past”. Well, the first activity that I did was my warm up in which we played the hot potato. They were very enthusiastic playing this. This group is really nice because they participate and help you to develop the activities in the way you expect.
So after playing this, we moved to the next activity which was a discussion with the whole group. This discussion was about the most important factors that we must take into account when we want to get a job. So I asked them and I mention some of the factors, and I asked which is the most important for them, and they were telling me and supporting their answers. It was nice to do this because they participated and used the vocabulary that they knew. I made them to speak especially those who do not like to.
After this, I moved to a reading in which i asked students to read it and then to listen the audio. Then, I asked them about new vocabulary. So I taught vocabulary, and I gave examples for them. As they were basic examples it was easy for them to give another example similar to the one that I gave them.
The last activity that I did was about certain vocabulary that was in the reading that I told you what they had to do is to write the definition of some specific words that were in the book. So then I asked for the meaning of these words and they shared them with the whole class.
So this was my last class with the group. The activity that I really liked is the one in which we were discussing the most important factors for getting a job because they were giving their own opinions. What I did not like is that they were playing with me they were changing their names whenever I asked them to tell me their names, but they were fun doing this so anyways I do not mind, now.
In the feedback the teacher told me that I started my class with a high enthusiasm, and then it was lower and lower, and she told me that it was maybe because of the day, because it was Monday, and she says that on Monday the students come with a feelings  that it is impossible to make them to be focused on the class. This is what she told me, and thank God everything was nice.

Second class, third period

Today, I taught my second class with intermediate students.  I really like this group because they are very participative.  I have developed all the activities that I have planned to do with them, and I have not had any problem when talking about participation. This group is one of the best groups that I had had during this semester.

Well, the first activity that I did was to discuss with the students about things that they planed to do in the past, but they did not took place, or maybe it took place, but not in the date that they expected.  We were discussing about it, and some of them said that they had not idea that the major that they were going to choose was going to be Licenciatura in English, some others said that they wanted to be architects, engineers, teachers, etc. It was nice to talk about it because they were very enthusiastic telling me.

Then, as I was going to teach Future in the Past, I taught new vocabulary related to the topic. I asked them to do a matching activity, but all together. I gave a phrase to some students, and I asked them to paste it in the correct meaning that was written in a chart that I did. Then I gave some sentences strips for students to organize them. They did it in a very nice way following the meaning of the words that I gave them.

Later on, I gave the meaning on the new topic, and I gave some examples. First; I started with the was and were going to form. I told them when we have to use it. Then, I asked for some sentences, and they told me. So I must say that the grammar explanation was clear enough.

Then, I though future in the past with would. I did the same, I wrote some examples, and then I asked to see if they got what I said, and unfortunately; they did it.

After explaining the grammar of this topic, I gave them a fill in the blank activity in which they had to complete some sentences. As they were doing this activity, I monitored all the students, and they were doing in the correct way. Then, I asked for correct answers, and they did it. Anyone got a bad answer.

So this is what I did, and then I waited for the teacher to give the feedback. She congratulated me because she told me that I studied the topic, and that I was very confident at the time of teaching. She told me that I showed that I knew the topic, and that I was not teaching wrong things.

First class, Third period

This was my first class with intermediate students. At first, I felt very nervous because I did not know how they were going to be with me. I am saying this because I had heard some classmates say that in some cases students do not pay attention or they do not participate in the activities. So that’s why I was nervous, but as times was passing I noticed that they like to participate in class, and they asked a lot.

So in this class, I did an activity as a warm up, and in this activity, they had to make two groups, and every group was going to choose a representative that was going to be writing the sentences that the others had to transmit. The only trouble was that the topic was reported speech, and I made some sentences in direct form . So what they had to do is to change them into reported speech, but as they had been studying the topic for weeks, it was easy for them to do it.

Then, we work in an activity in which they had to change the sentences into direct form because they were written in reported speech. So they were working in on this and then I asked them, and they did it well. Then, what I did was that I asked them to open their books and answer some sentences according to the listening. Well, here I could see that listening for them is one of the worst activities that they hate because it is difficult for them to understand. So what I did is that I paused the listening sentence by sentence for they to understand, and in that way they did it without any problem.

The last activity that I did in this class was a fill in the blank activity in which they had to write the correct verb according to the tense. It was nice because they were working in the whole class, and they did it in the way I expected.

After this I waited for the teacher`s feedback, and she told me that she really liked it the way in which I worked because I was very enthusiastic and smiling with my students, and she also told me that it helps a lot to do this. Another thing that she told me was that I had to be careful whenever I ask a question. She told me to be careful with auxiliaries.
